About QueryFrom
The Problem We Solve
Google search results are hyper-localized. When you type a query into Google, the search engine examines your device's IP address, GPS coordinates, and WiFi data to determine your exact physical location. It then customizes everything you see — the Local Pack, the organic rankings, the ads — to reflect what is most relevant to someone standing in your specific neighborhood.
For most consumers, this is convenient. But for SEO professionals, PPC account managers, and business owners operating across multiple cities, it creates a massive blind spot: you cannot see what your customers see unless you are physically standing where they are. QueryFrom was built to eliminate that blind spot.
Who Built This
James Whitfield
James is a digital marketer specializing in Local SEO and PPC campaign management. After years of frustration with inaccurate rank checking tools and expensive enterprise software that still couldn't reliably simulate searches at the city level, he built QueryFrom as the tool he always wished existed — fast, free, and powered by Google's own location data.
How the Technology Works
QueryFrom constructs Google Search URLs using two complementary approaches, both based on the same location encoding systems that Google uses internally:
- Ads Preview Mode — uses Google's Ads Preview Tool with a Criteria ID (a numeric identifier from Google's geotargets database) to simulate a search from a specific city. This is the most accurate method for same-country searches and mirrors exactly how Google Ads determines which ads to show in a given location.
- Direct Search Mode — uses UULE encoding, the same location parameter that Google's own infrastructure uses to tag a search with a geographic context. UULE stands for "User-Unified Location Encoding" and allows us to pass a canonical location name directly to Google's search backend. This method is best for cross-country searches.
In both cases, your browser performs the actual search directly on Google. QueryFrom never sees, intercepts, or stores your search queries or results. The tool simply generates the correctly formatted URL and opens it.
Our Location Database
We use Google's own geotargets database — the exact same dataset that powers Google Ads location targeting. This database is maintained by Google and updated regularly to reflect administrative boundary changes, new cities, and renamed regions.
Our current database includes over 49,000 searchable locations across 196 countries, covering everything from major metropolitan areas to small suburban towns. Each location is identified by its official Google Criteria ID, ensuring the location simulation is as accurate as what Google Ads uses internally.
Who Is This For?
QueryFrom is used daily by a wide range of digital marketing professionals:
- SEO professionals checking local rankings in cities they don't live in
- PPC teams verifying ad placements and competitor copy across regions
- Digital marketing agencies preparing client reports and live demos
- Franchise managers monitoring brand visibility across multiple cities
- Business owners who want to see exactly what their customers see
